Advance Breast Care • Breast Radiologist
A breast radiologist is a doctor who specialises in breast imaging. Dr. Pranjali Joshi is the breast radiologist at Lucknow Imaging Centre in Vijayant Khand, Gomti Nagar.
A breast radiologist reads breast images and explains what they show. This covers mammograms, 3D mammograms and breast ultrasound, and the extra pictures that follow when something needs a closer look. The radiologist writes the report that your own doctor uses.
Much of the work is comparison and judgement. The radiologist looks at the new pictures beside your earlier ones and matches them with your symptoms and examination findings. The answer may be reassurance, a repeat scan later, more imaging or a needle test.
Image-guided needle tests, such as breast FNAC and breast biopsy, are part of breast imaging practice. Whether a particular test is done at the centre, and by whom, is confirmed by the team after they have seen your referral and images.
A breast radiologist does not replace your surgeon or physician. The radiologist finds and describes what imaging shows. Treatment is planned by your own doctor or a breast surgeon.
Dr. Pranjali Joshi is the breast radiologist at the centre. She holds three qualifications, each a step further in training.
Qualifications tell you what a doctor has trained in. They cannot tell you how any one scan will turn out.
A breast radiologist is most useful when the breast question is not routine. Your doctor may suggest one, or you can ask for one yourself.
If your question is about images you already have, bring the films, disc or files with the reports. The team will tell you how a review can be arranged.
Tell the team what you need: screening, a symptom, or a second look at earlier images. Send the prescription if you have one.
The team tells you which test fits, how to prepare and who will see you. If you want the breast radiologist to look at images from elsewhere, say so now.
Bring earlier mammograms, ultrasound images and reports, and any biopsy results.
You have the mammogram, 3D mammogram or breast ultrasound that was planned. Extra pictures may be added if the radiologist asks.
The team tells you when and how you will get the report. Take it to your own doctor to plan what comes next.

A radiologist reads images, so the first step for a new change is an examination by a doctor. Please arrange one promptly if you notice:

Every radiologist is a doctor trained to read scans of the whole body. A breast radiologist has gone further, with extra training in mammography, breast ultrasound and the findings that follow. Both write reports and work alongside your referring doctor.
Not always. A prescription or note from your doctor helps, because it tells the team what to look for. If you do not have one, message us first and we will tell you what is possible. A new symptom should be examined by a doctor in any case.
Bring the images (films, a disc or files) and the reports. Ask the team how a review would work. The images matter more than the reports alone, because the original pictures show things a written summary cannot.
No. A radiologist finds and describes what imaging shows. Treatment is planned by a breast surgeon or an oncologist, which is a cancer specialist, together with your own doctor, using the radiology report and images.
BI-RADS is a scale from 0 to 6 that radiologists use to sum up a breast imaging report. It describes the findings and is not a diagnosis. Broadly, 1 and 2 mean nothing worrying was seen, and 3 means probably harmless, usually with a repeat scan after a short interval. Categories 4 and 5 mean the area looks suspicious and a tissue sample is usually advised to find out what it is. Category 6 is used when cancer has already been proven by biopsy, and 0 means more pictures or older images are needed. Your doctor will explain what yours means.
