About Dr. Pranjali Joshi
Dr. Pranjali Joshi is a breast radiologist, which means she studies breast imaging and guides a needle with imaging when a sample is needed. At Lucknow Imaging Centre she leads breast imaging and interventions under the Advance Breast Care service.
She trained as a radiologist first, then spent a further year on breast imaging alone. A breast radiologist is a radiologist with that extra focus on breast imaging and breast procedures.
Breast imaging is easier to interpret alongside your symptoms, your referral note and your earlier scans, so please bring all three. That lets the findings be read in the context of your care and not in isolation.

Read about itQuestions to ask and what to bring
Breast imaging can be frightening, and questions are part of the visit. You can ask the team what to expect, and whether you can talk to the radiologist about the report once it is ready. Ask again if something is not clear.
A breast radiologist does not replace the doctor who sent you. Your referring doctor decides the next step, so ask the team how the report will reach you both.
- Bring questions. Write them down before you come, so none are forgotten in the room.
- Bring earlier imaging. Old mammograms and ultrasounds let her compare, which often settles a doubt quickly.
- Say what you have noticed. A lump, pain, nipple discharge or a skin change guides which test is done first.
When to see a breast radiologist
People usually see a breast radiologist for one of two reasons: a routine check, or a change they have noticed. Most breast changes turn out not to be cancer, but each one deserves proper imaging so that you are not left guessing.
- A lump or thickening: see breast lump evaluation.
- Breast pain that stays or keeps coming back: see breast pain evaluation.
- Fluid from the nipple: see nipple discharge evaluation.
- Changes to the skin or nipple, or swelling under the arm: see skin and nipple changes and underarm swelling.
- A routine check or a family history your doctor has mentioned: see breast cancer screening.

Is a breast radiologist the same as a breast surgeon?
No. A breast radiologist reads breast imaging and takes samples under imaging guidance. A breast surgeon operates and plans treatment. If your imaging shows something that needs treatment, your own doctor or surgeon decides the next step.
